DAHS BEST ROBOTICS TEAM

The BEST season begins each year in late September and lasts for six hectic weeks.  At kick-off day, we discover the new challenge and receive our build kits.  We then have 6 weeks to design and build a competition robot, develop a marketing strategy and marketing booth, and prepare our engineering notebook and research paper.  Four weeks in, we showcase our efforts at  "Mall day" and see how the other schools are progressing.  After week six, we visit Grove City College for a two-day competition at our local Wolverine hub.  The top teams are then invited to The regional competition at Auburn University.

The BEST competition has been around for over 20 years, but has only recently expanded into our area of the country.  The competitions we have participated in are listed below.

  • 2012:  Warp XX!! -  Robots were designed to climb a "space elevator" and distribute solar panels, fuel containers, light cargo, and a habitation module to a Midway Station "in space!"
  • 2011:  Bugs! - Robots were designed to capture escaped genetically engineered insects at a research facility construction site.

Cost to Students:

BEST is free to participate and has sponsors for materials, but transportation is NOT included.  We will need to fundraise through the DAHS Physics Club to cover travel costs for our travel (especially if we make it to regionals again!).  We will start a fundraiser IMMEDIATELY upon our return to school in the fall!  We are hoping to have parents involved more this year!  If any parents can help, PLEASE feel free to contact Ms. Keith, Mr. Bowser, or Mr. Evans over the summer through email.
