Wasson Elementary

* All homework will come home in and must be returned to school in your child's folder and will be recorded in their assignment notebook. Please be sure that your child brings the folder and notebook to and from school EVERY DAY! *

On Mondays through Fridays, students must complete 20 minutes of reading at home. You can read to your child, with your child, or they can read independently. They must complete their reading log each night.

In addition to any math homework your child brings home, he/she is also responsible for studying basic math facts each day. Please quiz your child often on these facts.

We are using the spelling program that goes along with our reading series. Using this, we will investigate word patterns and sounds. Your child will be given a word list on Tuesday. Please help your child study not only the spellings of these words, but also ways they can be sorted by spelling or sound pattern. On Mondays, we will have a test.

We will be studying PSSA vocabulary and doing practice exercises every day in school. These are called Words of the Week (WOW). Each week your child will be responsible for learning some of the vocabulary terms, and demonstrating their understanding of the concepts. Your child will be expected to study these words at home. We will have a quiz on the week's words every Monday.

I know this seems like many responsibilities for young children, but they will be introduced one at a time and incorporated into our routine gradually. YOU are the most important part of your child's success in their education. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
