DuBois Area High School

Groundhog Job Shadow Day

On Friday, February 1, 2013, DAHS students are encouraged to participate in the 8th Annual Groundhog Job Shadow Day. This is an opportunity to expand their education outside the walls of the high school by having an on-the–job experience of a career of their choice.  Recently, the requirement of job shadowing has been added to the DAHS Graduation Project.  Students must complete one job shadow in the ninth or tenth grade and one in the eleventh or twelfth grade.

Students will arrange their own job shadow of the career they are interested in or they may let their History Teacher know if they would like to meet with their counselor or go to the career room to get contact information and/or assistance setting up their job shadow.

Students should arrange the shadow for February 1st between the hours of 7:45 am to 2:35 pm.  Visits should be arranged for at least 4 hours. Transportation is the student/parent/guardian’s responsibility.

Students will complete the Student Section and have a parent/guardian complete the Parent Section. Forms need to be turned in to their History Teachers by Wednesday, January 23rd for preapproval.  Before Groundhog Day, forms will be returned to students so that during the shadow the students can have the site supervisor complete the Job Shadow Supervisor Section.  The students will also need to consult with the supervisor to complete the questionnaire.

Students are reminded to dress appropriately during their experience and to thank their site supervisor for the opportunity.  If for any reason your plans change or you are unable to make the appointment, remember to notify your site supervisor.

After the shadow, fully completed forms must be returned to History Teachers by Wednesday, February 6th to ensure that the job shadow was completed and to provide documentation of a legal excuse to the attendance office.  This will be counted as an unexcused absence on your permanent record, unless you return the completed form by February 6th.

Original forms will be returned to students to be scanned by the student and saved to Student Drives for their electronic portfolios.
