SAT & ACT
The SAT is the a college board exam which colleges use to make admissions decisions.

Since March 2005 the SAT has included the writing section.
The Exam will now be 3 sections:
Math
Critical Reading
Writing
The addition of the new writing section takes the test time up to 3 hours and 45 minutes.
The Exam will cost $50.00. A $27.00 penalty is assessed if students miss the registration deadline which is usually about a month prior to the exam.
SAT Subject Tests are also required for admission at some universities. Students may take up to 3 subject tests on the same test date. Subjects include math, science, history, literature, and foreign languages. Review your college admissions requirements to see if you must take subjects test and which ones.

Students can register anytime prior to the exam but be sure to watch for registration deadlines.

Practice SAT tests are available on-line at www.collegeboard.com Also, sign-up at www.collegeboard.com to have the SAT Question of the Day e-mailed to you each day to give you on-going practice.
You can also sign up through your Guidance Counselor to take an on-line SAT Prep course using Study Island here at the high school…either for enrichment or for grade/credit.

****Scores are generally received by email in about two weeks if registration was done online or within three weeks in the mail.
The ACT is another college entrance exam accepted as widely by colleges as the SAT.
The exam includes the following sections:
Reading
English
Math
Science
Writing (optional)
The exam costs $35.00 or $50.50 with the Writing section. It is recommended that studetns elect to take the writing section since colleges are now utilizing the score for admission decisions and placement purposes.
