Prerequisite Swimming Test
300 yards of continuous swimming. The student must complete 300 yards of continuous swimming using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both strokes. The student is not permitted to stop or rest after beginning this portion of the test.
Brick Retrieval. The student must swim 20 yards of the pool, surface dive and retrieve a 10 pound brick. The student must then swim to the starting point by holding the brick in both hands and kicking. The student must place the brick on the side of the pool, climb out of the water and be on their feet for time to stop. The brick retrieval must be completed in less than 1 minute and 40 seconds.
Treading Water. The student must tread water in the deep end of the pool for 2 minutes using only his or her kick for support.
