In February, the elementary gifted studentsparticipated in the first Elementary President Competition at the ClarionIntermediate Unit.

The competition consisted of seventeen teams from seven elementaryschools. Each team had five students and each team competedin two rounds of eight questions. DuBois had one 5th /6thgrade team and two 3rd/4th grade teams.

The fifth grade team won first place in theirdivision. Our alternate fifth grader joined Red Bank Valley’s team andthey placed second. For the most individual points we had two fifth gradersplace in the top four. Weston Meredith placed second and ChristopherAdams placed fourth.

The 3rd/4th grade teamstook fourth and fifth place in their division. Representing DuBois was Ryan Sickeri, Timothy Stainbrook, Monica Scotto, Madee Finalle, Michael Dowling, Christian Kirk, Morgan Tyler, Julia Wirth, Sarah Swope, Ellie McFadden, and Lydia Dixon were: For the most individualpoints we had two fourth graders place in the top four. Lydia Dixon placed third and Monica Scotto placed fourth.

To prepare for the competition the studentsmade a bulletin board and wikispace. They included a picture of each presidentand researched information to place under them. They included vicepresidents, secretary of state, first ladies, quotes, nicknames, slogans, andevents that occurred during their presidency.

Studied the Constitution and the ammendments that pertain to voting and elected offices.
Students have made ballots and ballot boxes for each school.
They will count the vote and announce the winner of their school.
